🧱 Building Age Index

Topic: Property | Category: Residential | Group: Property Quality**

Description

The Building Age Index measures how new or old a property is.

What the Index Measures

Uses construction year data.

  • Higher scores = newer buildings

  • Lower scores = older buildings

(You can later decide whether to invert this for “heritage value”—but for now we stick with “newer = higher”.)

Numeric Scale & Quality Interpretation

Same scale tiers.

Examples:

  • 19/20 = recently built

  • 10/20 = mid-aged

  • 2/20 = very old

Accuracy: Larger scales show clear differences between properties built a few years apart.

Why Numeric Scales Matter

Age affects:

  • maintenance

  • insulation

  • design

  • regulations

  • safety

Numeric scales make comparisons straightforward.
